March registrations to set new record

  02 April 2017

Figures seen by Auto Retail Agenda indicate that March new car registrations are on course to top 2016’s total – itself a record-breaking month at 518,707 cars – by around three percent. A three percent rise in new car registrations in March would mean a total above 534,000.

The increase is understood to have been driven by sales being pulled forward from April, as car buyers tried to take advantage of the old VED system before the new scheme started on Saturday, 1st April.

However, retailer sources have told Auto Retail Agenda that much of this pull forward has been driven by manufacturers pushing deals and registrations – particularly at the end of the month.
