DS boss hopes retailers will embrace rental opportunity

PSA Groupe premium brand DS is looking for its retailers to “really make a go” of the company’s moves into the rental market before the end of the year under the DS Rental banner.
“The way we have approached the programme is that it is an opportunity for dealers; if you need a premium car for a few weeks, you’ll be able to get it from your local operator,” DS UK managing director Alain Descat told Auto Retail Bulletin. “It adds a new vertical, ad some will open up their courtesy cars to rental, while some will expand their fleet and really make a go of it.”
The primary customers are expected to be local business-to-business clients, with the scheme rolling out across the entire network.
DS now has 32 individual retailers, since the split from being based within a Citroen showroom that kicked in on 1 July, with the target of 50 by the end of 2018 and 60-70 in a full network. That’s down from the original plan for 60 by the end of 2018.
