Darren Guiver quits Group 1

  21 November 2019

Group 1 Automotive’s UK managing director Darren Guiver has left the business he joined in 2016. It is believed that Earl Hesterberg, president and CEO of the US-owned retailer, will run the UK operation until a successor is found.

Speaking exclusively to Auto Retail Agenda, Mr Guiver said: “It was my decision to leave, I’ve been financially secure since I sold my Spire business into Group 1 and now I want to take some time for myself and work out what I want to do next.”

Mr Guiver sold Spire Automotive to Group 1 in early 2016.

“It’s been a great journey with Group 1 they’ve been lovely to work for and the business has grown substantially since I joined.”

In the UK, Group 1 has a turnover in excess of £1 billion from 50 franchises and with a staff count of 3,500, according to Mr Guiver when he spoke to sister publication Auto Retail Bulletin, earlier this year.
