Garages confirmed as essential businesses

  24 March 2020

The Government has confirmed garages, car rental operations and delivery are among the facilities that can remain open while the UK is in lock-down mode.

This means that, currently, there is no pause on MOTs and that vehicles, particularly for key workers, can still be maintained.

While many auto retail groups were, yesterday, planning to close showrooms in the next few days this has been accelerated to immediate closure after the Prime Minister announced the UK’s lock-down last night.

However, MOTs for lorries and buses have been given a three-month exemption, which started on 21 March.

The Government’s full business closure guidance can be found here.
