Click to win
27 May 2014
It was my pleasure to attend Auto Traders Click Awards this week and congratulations to all the winners and finalists, particularly the Ultimate Digital Group winner; Arnold Clark.
However, as well as the networking, its the information and ideas that you pick up that are fascinating and worth spreading. Within the presentation by Auto Traders Nick King about the latest trends in online retailing and consumer habits (which was fascinating see Agendas story for more on this) there was a great idea.
This , like all the best ideas, was simple: for retailers regularly to change the password on their customer wifi networks. And you should change it to reflecting whatever it is youre promoting. So, in the latter part of the year the password could be; wedogreatdealsonwintertyres. Or for service plans it could be; askuseaboutourgreatvalueserviceplans. The list goes on, but you see how it works. Its one more way to let your customers know whats going on.
And as an aside, this longer password idea is also a good habit to get into for all websites according to an internet security expert talking on the radio about the latest hack of a well-known site. Using a long phrase is apparently near-impossible to crack or guess and is also memorable.
So, with that two-for-the-price-of-one idea imparted, Im now wondering what password to use on my home wifi to encourage my kids to get their chores done. Cleanyourroomtogetpocketmoney, perhaps?
