Regulator defends car finance

Andrew Bailey, chief executive of the Financial Conduct Authority, has suggested car finance is unlikely to be an underlying cause of another financial crash.

At a speech in London’s Mansion House, Mr Bailey said: “We are not at all complacent about the overall consumer credit situation, but I don’t regard the shift to personal contract plan-based lending as per se bad.”
